Contracts That Work

Before you sign on the dotted line…

Contracts are essential in everyday business dealings. Whether you’re selling a gallon of paint or doing a multimillion-dollar business deal, there will be paperwork!  And what that contract says can make all the difference in the world.

Will you get paid…and when?  What happens if you don’t? Who pays the legal fees?  What recourse do you or they have if either party is unhappy?  It is not sufficient just to understand what a contract says, and many are not clear at all. You need to know what clauses should and should not be in the contract. Your particular situation may have a major impact on the language that is needed. It is just as harmful to include the wrong language as to exclude necessary language.

Before you sign another contract or have someone sign one of yours, a review by an attorney might be a good idea. Don’t leave yourself, or your business, unprotected one more day.  It could cost you everything. And remember: insurance doesn’t protect you against a lousy contract.
