Reach the Attorney Directly, Not a Call Center
Call 917-748-6124, email paul@paulappellaw.com, or send the consultation form below. Your message goes straight to Paul H. Appel, who will be the person handling the matter.
Get in touch
Tell the firm what the business is facing
A contract waiting for signature, a deal under negotiation, a co-owner disagreement, a company about to be formed or sold: the more specific your first message, the more useful the first reply.
You do not need to know which area of law applies. Explain what is happening in a few sentences, mention any deadline such as a closing date, a lease start or a response date on a demand letter, and say how you would prefer to be contacted.
Consultations take place by phone, video or in person at 11 Crestwood Drive in Freehold, by appointment. Most first conversations happen by phone, and documents can be emailed beforehand so that the call is spent on substance.
Please do not send confidential documents or sensitive details until the firm has confirmed it can take the matter on. Contacting the firm does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship.
What happens next
What happens after you get in touch
There is no intake portal and no queue. The process has four steps.
Your message reaches Paul
Calls and emails go to the attorney himself, not to a coordinator who takes a message and passes it on.
A conversation about the matter
You describe the situation and get a candid assessment of the risk, including whether it needs a lawyer at all.
Scope and fee in writing
If the firm can help, you receive a written description of the work and the fee before anything begins.
Work begins
Drafting, review, negotiation or filing gets under way, with plain-English updates at each stage.

Be ready
What to have ready for the first conversation
None of this is required to make contact, but having it to hand makes the first call far more productive.
- The document at the center of the matter: the contract, lease, letter of intent, demand letter or franchise disclosure document
- The company's legal name and entity type, plus your operating agreement, bylaws or shareholder agreement if ownership is involved
- The names of the other parties and of any lawyer representing them, so a conflict check can be run
- Any deadline you are working to, such as a signing date, closing date or response date
- A short timeline of what has happened so far, especially in a dispute
- What a good outcome looks like to you
If you are buying, selling or forming a company, the practice area overview explains what each type of engagement normally involves.
Questions & answers
Contacting the firm
How quickly will I hear back?
Because messages go directly to Paul, rather than to an intake team, replies normally come promptly during business days. If you face a hard deadline, such as a signing tomorrow or a court date, say so at the start of your message or call 917-748-6124 so that the matter can be prioritized.
Can the first meeting take place by video?
Yes. Video and phone consultations are routine and work well for most business matters, since documents can be shared on screen or by email. In-person meetings at the Freehold office are available by appointment when you would prefer to sit down together or when the matter calls for it.
Is what I send through the contact form confidential?
Information you send before the firm agrees to represent you is not automatically protected as privileged. Keep the first message to a general description of the issue, the parties and any deadline. Detailed documents can be shared once the firm confirms it can act for you and there is no conflict of interest.
What if my matter is not something the firm handles?
You will be told directly. The practice is limited to commercial and business law. If your issue falls outside that, or would be better handled by an accountant or another professional, Paul will say so in the first conversation rather than take on work that belongs elsewhere.
