About these reviews
Why the reviews are reproduced unedited
Every review on this page was written and posted by a client of the firm. Nothing has been shortened, corrected or reworded, and nothing has been added to explain the matter behind it. Each is presented the way its author chose to describe the experience.
Taken together they cover a broad cross-section of the practice: forming companies, buying franchises and signing a first lease, selling a business during an estate, relocating a company into New Jersey, and long advisory relationships with organizations and individual owners. They describe what working with the firm has been like for those clients. Every matter is different, and a past client's experience is not a prediction of the result in yours.

What clients have written
When I met Paul, I was immediately put at ease by his friendliness and approachability. Many attorneys, I have found to be distant, disinterested, and distracted. This was not the case with Paul. After a few conversations, I felt like I was in the presence of a consummate expert in contract law. Businesses need agreements to succeed. However, business owners like myself just don't have the legal knowledge to draft agreements that will NOT come back to bite us. So, he encouraged me to ask him questions, and I realized how much we all need a counselor to protect our businesses before entering into a bad agreement. As I continued to work with him, I began to see the incredible scope of his expertise. It includes but not limited to proactive prevention of commercial disputes, corporate planning, contract drafting and negotiation, and resolution of commercial disputes. He educates and protects. I wholeheartedly recommend you and every business to talk to Paul, ask him questions, and bring him on your team.
I recently found myself in the unenviable position of becoming a widow. I was overwhelmed as I faced not only Estate issues but also the sale of my spouse's businesses. Fortunately, I engaged The Law Offices of Paul Appel. Although these were uncharted waters for me, Paul handled every issue in an effective, efficient, and timely manner. He is extremely knowledgeable and put me at ease through every step of the process and was always available to answer any questions. The peace of mind his services and communication provided me is much appreciated. I highly recommend Paul Appel!
Paul has been very attentive to our needs from purchasing multiple franchise to a lease signing for our first location. Paul answered every question we had and protected us from any issues that arised.
Paul Appel, Esq. perfectly and absolutely exemplifies what abused victims envision when choosing an "advocate". Paul Appel and his law firm accomplished in a calendar quarter what our prior counsel had not achieved in 3 years.
Paul is not only knowledgeable and intelligent, he is an expert in his field. Every time we speak I learn a little more about Paul and how he works with his clients. He seamlessly helped me transition my business from CT to NJ. Highly recommend working with Paul!
Super impressed with Paul's professionalism and how easy it is to communicate with him, how accessible he stays through the entire process! Paul is exceptional at resolving particularly challenging issues, discovering the exact little detail that was overlooked by everybody else and made the biggest difference!!
My partners and I used Paul to form an LLC, as well as negotiate the purchase of a business. He was always available for questions and concerns via cell phone which was important to us! I would recommend him to anyone!!
Paul is very different than most attorneys. He is personable and down to earth and builds long term relationships with his clients. His advice is spot on. I am really glad I found him and to have him in my corner.
Paul has been a great pleasure to work with! He's genuinely caring and has always had our best interests in mind. He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and always makes sure to explain things.
Paul is a wonderfully competent attorney. No BS. No surprises. Over the years I have dealt with many attorneys. I wish I had found Paul earlier on. It was a pleasure working with him.
As the key legal advisor for the Snell Foundation, Paul's advice, conduct and contribution to the organization is invaluable. He always sees where the path leads and the inconsistencies along the trail that will trip up the hike.
I highly recommend Paul Appel Law. Paul has handled a number of business dealings for me, and I've found him to be knowledgeable, professional, and very easy to work with.
Common threads
Four themes that keep coming up
The clients behind these reviews work in very different fields, yet they keep returning to the same four points.
Direct access
Reviewers mention being able to reach Paul himself, including on his cell phone, throughout a matter and without going through anyone else first.
Explanations without jargon
Several describe being encouraged to ask questions and having agreements explained until they understood them, before signing rather than afterwards.
Problems headed off early
A recurring point is protection from issues before they surfaced: preventing commercial disputes and spotting the overlooked detail, not just cleaning up later.
Relationships that last
Many reviews describe years of work for the same client, from an LLC formation or franchise purchase through later business dealings and ongoing advice.

Where the next relationship begins
Most of these relationships started with one specific matter, such as an operating agreement, a franchise lease or the purchase of a company, and grew from there.
